Multiple Traffic Charges — McKenzie Police were contacted by a convenience store shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday, July 30, regarding a white vehicle parked near the side of the store for approximately an hour with headlights on. The caller requested an officer to come check the vehicle.

Officer Darren Davis responded to the call and found the vehicle with a white male sleeping in the driver’s seat. Davis observed containers of alcohol near the driver with one open. Davis woke the male by tapping on his window. The subject identified himself as William Moore, of McKenzie.

Upon questioning, Moore admitted to drinking 4 or 5 beers earlier. He also stated his driver’s license was not valid. A check with dispatch confirmed Moore’s license was revoked for a DUI in Carroll County.

Officer Davis had Moore perform standard field sobriety tests which he did poorly on causing Davis to determine Moore was too intoxicated to drive. Moore was charged with DUI and Driving on Revoked License while being cited for Violation of Implied Consent Law and Open Container Violation.

Driving on Suspended/Revoked License/Financial Responsibility Law — A Stonewall Street resident called McKenzie Police, Friday evening, July 29, advising Hunter Taylor, of McKenzie, was driving by her residence revving his engine. The caller told dispatch that his license was suspended. Officer Darren Davis located the vehicle traveling north on Stonewall Street and confirmed with dispatch that Taylor’s license was suspended. After confirmation, Davis initiated a traffic stop and also learned Taylor could not provide proof of insurance. He was cited for Driving on Suspended License – 2nd Offense and Violation of Financial Responsibility Law.

Multiple Charges — McKenzie Police Investigator Justin Brister was dispatched to multiple 911 calls concerning a vehicle driving erratically on Hwy 124 coming into McKenzie on Thursday afternoon, July 21. The vehicle was observed pulling into a convenience store where it hit a yellow parking barrier while pulling into a parking space. Sgt. Andy Weaver pulled behind the vehicle while Brister arrived shortly after.

According to the report, Brister spoke to the driver, Diana Ballentine, 53, of McKenzie, and noticed her speech was slurred and slow. Brister questioned Ballentine about a hit and run incident earlier in the day involving a black Nissan Altima striking a Maroon colored vehicle and leaving the scene. Brister observed Maroon colored paint on her vehicle along with yellow paint from striking the parking barrier. Ballentine denied being involved in any type of accident involving her vehicle and kept stating she wasn’t under the influence of Alcohol.

Brister asked Ballentine to do standard field sobriety tests which she performed poorly on. Ballentine was arrested and refused to provide a blood sample. Her vehicle was then searched revealing she was in possession of a marijuana joint and two Hydrocodone pills. Ballentine was charged with DUI – First Offense and cited into Carroll County General Sessions Court on charges of Implied Consent Violation, Simple Possession of Schedule II Drugs (Hydrocodone) and Simple Possession of Schedule VI Drug (Marijuana).

Drug Charges — McKenzie Police executed a search warrant on Thursday afternoon, July 21 at a Walnut Circle Residence. Searchers located 3 baggies of a green leafy substance thought to be marijuana weighing 51 grams. It was field tested and confirmed to be marijuana. Located near the drugs was a digital scale along with $1,010 in cash. 4 more digital scales were located with a 9mm pistol and a .22 rifle.

The resident, Miguel Meijas, 31, of McKenzie was present for the search and was arrested and charged with Sale/Delivery of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Unlawful Drug Paraphernalia. He was transported to Carroll County Jail.
